updated: kcgiessen.com

and when i say "updated" i mean "re-designed". and there'll probably be another iteration of this in 6 months. cause that's what interactive designer-wives do for their sound designer-husbands, right? "design on a whim" was in our vows. c'est romantique, no?

i like this version better though. and kc's still building his portfolio, so lot's more amazing work to come. but he's super talented & i'm so proud of him.

cole-gibadlo wedding invitations

cole-gibadlo wedding invitations

i created these invitations for my bff's wedding in july. steph and her hubbie-to-be call each other "bug". so naturally their wedding invites feature (custom) illustrations of a grasshopper (him) and a lightning bug (her). they're getting married out on her parent's property at night under the stars. it's going to be ah-mazing and i'm so glad i get to be a part of it.

cat kimbro : promo shots

for one of our latest projects, kc and i teamed up and did some promo shots for the amazingly talented catherine kimbro. she's heading up to nashville for her spring break to present her newly recorded country demos.
kc & i are so passionate about making stuff together, and working as an stylist/photographer team is just ridiculously fun.

check out a couple more photos from the shoot here.

and treat yourself to catherine's voice here:

(psssst: those are the cowboy boots i got married in!)

february + march inspiration

above is a snippet of my march inspiration folder. there are 415 items, so i couldn't show it all. but i'd say the main motifs running through the past couple of months are feminine colors: pink, light blue, and chartreuse; flowers & fauna; balloons and just an overall softness.

and since i posted january's inspiration, but not february's, here a screenshot of one of my feb folders
(already sorted, oops):

we're on design*sponge!

Yup that's our dining room table- on Design*Sponge! This is something of a personal achievement for me because I've been reading Grace's blog since I graduated high school. Waaaaay back in the day, things were different - I didn't have a thousand design blogs in my Google Reader, I read one. This one. (Also, she didn't post nearly as much and I would sometimes wait a whole day for a new post. omg.) And I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life beyond the summer.
As silly as it may sound, this blog inspired me to make a living being creative. And to have e-mails from Grace Bonney (omg!) saying such ridiculously nice things about some stupid stuff I made is just amazing.

razorfish work | H&R Block online ads

These are two of the concepts I storyboarded for ads to run on Fox.com, NBC.com and Hulu. The first board was executed in After Effects (along with another concept not shown here) by Tim Pethel; sound design by KC Giessen. You can view the finished ads on KCGiessen.com.

chanel vs. sylvia

okay, okay it's already ALL over the blog circuits, but i just have to mention the theme of the 2009 Spring-Summer Chanel show. the paper accessories and decor of "monochrome white" bring me back to the ridiculously challenging and frustrating paper project from sylvia's introduction class at the circus.

4800 hours to assemble 7000 handmade, all white, paper sculptures. i think that's insanely cool, and makes me rethink the woes of first quarter. and my living room. get your exact-o knife ready, babe.

january inspiration

each month i make a folder on my portable hard drive where i can drag all the random images that i find throughout the month that inspire me. i started this back when i was planning my wedding and every month the collection grows larger. october had 149 images... january had 733 images. i really love doing it because it allows me to carry around a scrapbook of all the things i saw that month and said, hey, that's kinda cool. it's also interesting to track how my tastes/moods change. above is a peak at a couple of the images from an uncharacteristically feminine january. click the image for a better view.

big dog, little bed

i just had to post this photo my mom sent me. yup this is one of our pups, cesar, trying to cram his ridiculously long body into this tiny (cat) bed my mom won on etsy. doesn't he look comfortable?

congrats, pete!

saturday we celebrated my brother pete's graduation from the circus... only about a month late. :)

congrats, pete!

my brother is an all-around amazing artist: designer, photographer, painter, sculptor, musician. he does incredible work and is a great source of inspiration & encouragement for me. here are a couple samples from his student portfolio:

recent features

We've been featured on wedding blogs a couple times in the past few days. I hope that other brides will be inspired by some of the little things we did. Here are a few screenshots.

razorfish work | H&R Block 2009 banner ads

It started with this. One of the original storyboards I created for the 2009 H&R Block Online banner campaign. Okay, so banner ads aren't the coolest, but I think these are pretty fun.
We wanted the design to be clean, simple, colorful. This concept for the look & feel was one of mine and I also designed 99% of the icons for the campaign.

thank you cards

Thank You Cards
I used some black and whites portraits from the wedding and printed the design in fun bright colors. They don't match the rest of the style I used for wedding stuff, except in the colors of the cards & envelopes.
Thank You Cards

Oh wait. You didn't get yours? It's coming. We're busy. And slow.

Thanks to KC for the photos.

once wed blog feature + bonus points

Emily over at Once Wed is featuring our wedding on Monday, and has posted a little preview here. AND I designed that ad for H&R Block at the top of the screenshot. Double whammy!

signs and programs

Church Fan Style Programs
Instead of programs we had church style fans. I think the guests appreciated them, sitting in the middle of a field in the august sun. I designed them in the same style as the invitations with, my fave, 2 sheep at the top.

KC, Pete, and I made these signs for the wedding. After this photo was taken, the girls and I attached a bunch of white balloons to it so that it looked like I was holding them.

Thanks to Kyle Hale for the 1st & 3rd photos and KC for the middle shot.

wedding goodies

6 months later, I'm about to post some real shots of the design work I did for my wedding. Thanks to my husband for his super sweet photography skills. More to come!
