chanel vs. sylvia

okay, okay it's already ALL over the blog circuits, but i just have to mention the theme of the 2009 Spring-Summer Chanel show. the paper accessories and decor of "monochrome white" bring me back to the ridiculously challenging and frustrating paper project from sylvia's introduction class at the circus.

4800 hours to assemble 7000 handmade, all white, paper sculptures. i think that's insanely cool, and makes me rethink the woes of first quarter. and my living room. get your exact-o knife ready, babe.

circus love

to supplement posting, as i'm in progress on multiple projects, i figured i'd post up the work of the two designers i graduated with at the circus back in may. and since this blog has my name at the top, i'm including shots of my wicked modeling skills that appear in their books, for your entertainment.

right now ashley is in her hometown of sugarland, texas, moments away from the perfect agency snatching her up.

jackie hall designs

This weekend I finished up the website for a good designer friend of mine, Jackie Hall. Jackie's graduating from the Circus in less than 2 weeks and moving to Jacksonville. Her work is great. Enjoy.

I did the Flash animation on the homepage using her identity and used Dreamweaver + SimpleViewer to set up the portfolio sections.

One Show Competition : Organ Donor Poster

Brief : The poster is meant to raise awareness, create interest, or serve as call to action. Use the elements of graphic design to achieve this.

Interactive bus shelter posters invite commuters to paint-by-numbers
with their gum instead of wastefully throwing the gum away. This
encourages commuters to give meaning to their wait by donating gum to
the poster and becoming an organ donor.

I worked with Liz Cartwright & Mike Egan (both writers) on this project.

Liz, Mike, KC, & I spent 4 hours on Sunday assembling the poster:

Yep. It's real gum. & it's gross, but kind of awesome.

6th Quarter : Deathmatch #4

One week project : Create a high-end chocolatier: name, logo, and packaging

Logo design & chocolate packaging
for Lille Bitte. Lille Bitte, Danish for tiny, creates fun high-end chocolates inspired by the forms & flavors of desserts.

The miniatures featured here are cupcakes. Each “tiny cupcake” contains a chocolate or a white chocolate base and one of 15 flavors. In addition to different sized boxes for the chocolates, the system includes label stickers to be adhered to the inside of the lid when packing.

6th Quarter : Deathmatch #5

Three week (sort of) project : Create a DVD cover for a real client.

DVD cover & insert
for Yoga Dose, a yoga dvd featuring 2 rockin' yogis (Lara & Nicole).

This project was fun because we got to be there for the photoshoot, and work with a real client. & KC & I took Lara's class at Yoga Samadhi - it was really fantastic & Nicole is amazing. We didn't go to Nicole's class over at Decatur Yoga, but she was super cool too. Mine was in the top two, but they ultimately went with Jackie's. But I won the judges over, so Jackie & I scored a win for this one. But she's the real winner, ha.

They really like photography juxtaposed with illustration, so I combined photos from the shoot, purple & orange flowers, anatomical illustrations, and graphic swirly-things.

Insert front & back:

6th Quarter : Deathmatch #6

One week project : Repackage a dollar store item (mine was girls' socks) to be sold in a high-end boutique.

Sock packaging
for Underpinnings, manufacturer of socks, underwear, undershirts, etc. made of organic & sustainable cotton. Outdoorsy, yet fresh & feminine.

(Click the pictures if you want to see them bigger.)

The judges & panel were pretty stoked on it & suggested that I blow out the packaging (underwear, undershirts, bedding, towels, etc.) & the identity.

6th Quarter : Digital 2

Web elements for fabric8, a subset of Singer. Sewing machine & accessories geared towards preteens-teens. 2 quarters ago I metal-ized the machine & packaged it in a punk-rock theme.
